According to recently released research, “food toxins in formula set infants up for diabetes late in life.”
Have you heard of AGEs? Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) are toxic glucose by-products that form in the body when sugars combine with the body’s proteins, fat or DNA molecules. These toxic molecules can also form in food, especially food that is processed by high heat. One of those foods is infant formula.
It is now known that AGEs are “found in high levels in infant’s formula.” These high levels can lead to inflammation and insulin resistance in later life. “When infants are switched from breast milk to formula, their bodies are bombarded with toxic AGEs that are the result of formulas processed under high heat. Formula for infants contains 100 times more AGEs than breast milk, according to researchers.”
AGEs are directly related to risk of diabetes and the complications of diabetes such as kidney disease, nerve damage and blindness. Therefore, some researchers have concluded that “food toxins in formula set infants up for diabetes late in life.”
The research also shows that infants have similar levels of AGEs as their mothers, suggesting that AGEs are transferred to the infant through Mom’s blood. This is one more reason that mother’s diet is critical to the baby’s health. And the solution to lowering your levels of AGEs is simple: lower your intake of processed, grilled, fried and high sugar foods.
